Job Description – 1099 Mobile Automotive Technician (On‑Call / Part‑Time)
Hofer’s Mobile Mechanics LLC is seeking an experienced 1099 Mobile Automotive Technician to assist with overflow work and provide coverage when the owner is out of town. This is a flexible, as‑needed subcontractor role designed for technicians who already have steady income and want additional side work, not a full‑time position. There are no guaranteed hours and no benefits.
The technician will perform on‑site diagnostics and repairs at customer locations throughout the Coastal Bend. Work includes mechanical repairs, electrical diagnostics, maintenance services, and accurate repair recommendations based on OEM procedures. You must be able to operate independently, communicate professionally with customers, and follow the company’s documentation standards to protect both the customer and the business.
This role requires a technician who values honesty, safety, and proper repair practices. You will represent Hofer’s Mobile Mechanics LLC in the field and must uphold the company’s ethics, professionalism, and customer‑first approach. As a 1099 contractor, you will provide your own tools, diagnostic equipment, and work vehicle, and you must understand the responsibilities of independent contracting.
The business is in its first year of growth, and while this position begins as part‑time 1099 work, we are looking for someone who is willing to grow with the demand for services. As the company expands, there may be an opportunity to transition into a future full‑time W‑2 employee role for the right candidate.
Requirements
Mobile Technician Requirements
Technical & Diagnostic Competence
Proven ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using OEM procedures, wiring diagrams, and proper testing methods.
Ability to perform accurate, ethical repair recommendations based on safety and OEM standards.
Experience completing on‑site repairs independently in a mobile environment.
Tools, Equipment & Transportation
Must provide personal tools, diagnostic equipment, and a reliable work vehicle suitable for mobile service.
Must be able to safely transport tools and parts to customer locations.
Must maintain tools and equipment in clean, professional working condition.
Work Style & Professionalism
Ability to work independently without supervision and manage time effectively.
Strong customer‑service skills with the ability to represent Hofer’s Mobile Mechanics LLC professionally and respectfully.
Clean, safe work habits and respect for customer property at all times.
Ability to follow structured documentation standards, including photos, repair notes, and communication summaries.
Administrative & Compliance Requirements
Must understand 1099 contractor responsibilities, including self‑employment tax and record‑keeping.
Must be willing to obtain a DBA or other business registration if required by Texas regulations for subcontractors.
Must be able to provide proof of experience and competence before receiving assignments.
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Availability & Reliability
Must be dependable, punctual, and responsive for on‑call assignments.
Must be available for overflow work and to cover jobs when the owner is out of town.
Must be comfortable with no guaranteed hours and flexible scheduling based on business needs.
