HOFER'S MOBILE MECHANICS - OFFICIAL PRICING POLICY
Standard Automotive Rate $95hr
Applies to:
Passenger cars
- SUVs & crossovers
- Minivans
- ½-ton & ¾-ton gas trucks (1500/2500, F-150/F-250, etc.)
- Light automotive repairs
RV & Diesel Rate $125hr
Applies to:
- All diesel-powered vehicles
- All RVs (Class A, B, C, Super C, Diesel Pushers)
- 1-ton trucks and larger (3500/F-350/Ram 3500 and up)
- Medium-duty trucks (4500-6500, F-450/F-550, Freightliner M2, etc.)
- Box trucks, flatbeds, service bodies
- Towable RVs when service involves:
- Brakes
- Bearings
- Axles
- Leveling systems
- Electrical troubleshooting
Why this rate applies:
These vehicles require heavier equipment, diesel-rated tools, advanced diagnostics, and additional
labor time due to size, weight, and accessibility.
Mobile Service Call Fee $75 Flat Fee (normal business hours)
Covers travel time, fuel, and mobile shop setup.
This fee applies to every service visit, including diagnostics.
Diagnostic Policy (Industry Standard)
Diagnostics are billed separately from labor because they require specialized tools, training, and
time.
Basic Diagnostic - $95 (Automotive)
Used for straightforward issues that can be identified with standard tools and minimal testing.
Examples:
- OBD-II code scan
- Basic electrical checks (fuses, relays, battery/alternator)
- Visual inspections
- Fluid leak identification
- Basic drivability checks
Includes:
- Code scan
- Initial testing
- Technician findings
- Repair recommendations
Advanced Diagnostic - $125 (Automotive)
Used when the issue requires deeper investigation, disassembly, or advanced testing procedures.
Examples:
- No-start conditions
- Intermittent electrical issues
- CAN-bus communication faults
- Sensor circuit failures
- Mechanical tear-down for access
- Timing, compression, or fuel pressure testing
- EVAP system diagnostics
- Wiring tracing and circuit testing
Why this rate applies:
- Requires advanced tools (oscilloscope, load testers, wiring diagrams, bidirectional scan tools)
- Requires more time and higher skill level
- Often involves partial disassembly to access components
- Many issues cannot be diagnosed from a code alone
Advanced Diagnostic - $125 (RV & Diesel)
Used for:
- Diesel engine diagnostics
- RV electrical system troubleshooting
- Generator diagnostics
- Hydraulic leveling faults
- Communication issues
- Wiring tracing
- Load testing
- Intermittent faults
Billing practice:
This is billed when Basic Diagnostics are no longer affective to resolve customers complaint and requires more time past 1 hour due to basic diagnostics having no solution, tear down required, or special equipment is used. This will convert Basic Diagnostics to Advanced Diagnostics at the ADVANCED DIAGNOTICS RATE plus 1 hour pre authorized at STANDARD SHOP RATE for the category of the vehicle ie Automotive light duty, RV or Diesel. Please refere to welcome packet once received estimate for more details.
Electrical Diagnostic Policy (Automotive & RV/Diesel)
Electrical systems are not always "plug-and-play." A fault in one part of a circuit can prevent proper
testing of another.
Examples where repair is required before continuing diagnostics:
- Melted connectors
- Corroded terminals
- Broken grounds
- Damaged wiring
- Blown fuses caused by shorts
- Failed relays that prevent power flow
- Open circuits that stop downstream testing
Policy Statement:
If a component, connector, or wiring issue prevents accurate diagnostic testing, the necessary repair
must be completed first. This repair is billed separately from diagnostic time.
This ensures:
- Accurate results
- No guesswork
- No unnecessary parts replacement
- A proper root-cause diagnosis
Tear-Down Authorization Policy
Some diagnostics require partial disassembly to access components.
Examples:
- Intake removal for sensor access
- Dash panel removal for wiring faults
- Wheel-well or underbody removal for harness tracing
- Interior trim removal for module access
- Customer responsible for consumables i.e. Gaskets, O-rings, seals during tear down that cannot be re used.
Tear-down labor is billed at the applicable hourly rate (Automotive or RV/Diesel).
If the customer declines repairs after tear-down, reassembly is still billed.
Diagnostic Fee Policy
- Diagnostic fees are not waived, even if repairs are approved.- Diagnostics and repairs are billed separately.- The service call fee still applies to diagnostic visits
